Dakota Highway

I just found this in my archives and thought I’d share what I’m looking at today.  It may not be the most stunning sunset photo, but it makes me feel good.  I remember the moment well, as I had to slow down for a family of deer crossing the two lane highway.  I felt like nature was trying to tell me something like, “Hey buddy… remember why you’re here? Stop and check me out!”  I’m glad I did.

I think its remarkable how white objects are rarely white. They reflect the scene, and in this case the sky was partially blue, partially orange from the setting sun.  I love the contrast of color, the soft glow of orange on blue snow in the distance, and the highlighted hilltops. And the best part? There was no one around for 50 miles! Just me and the deer.
