Topanga Grotto

I’m pleased to announce my latest release, Topanga Grotto, which was taken at a very special spot in Topanga Canyon where I live. If you’re a local you may have visited this waterfall, although it is not easy to get to. In fact I’m not going to tell you where it is because there are so few places left in the LA area that are still tucked away and rarely visited. It is also slightly dangerous, even for avid hikers. The feeling you get when you reach this grotto, almost completely hidden from the massive surrounding boulders, is surreal. Climbing down to the water level between the boulders reveals what you see in the photo. The cloudy sky this day gave me the perfect mid-day diffused light to keep the camera’s shutter open long enough to show the motion of the water and bubbles without harsh light and shadow in the background. I also couldn’t have asked for a better natural light to shine though the cracks to highlight the waterfall. Like many things in life, timing is everything in photography. I feel grateful and blessed to have experienced this place on such a perfect day, and to be able to share it with you.
