Tuna Canyon Labyrinth Midnight Hike

Last night the thunderstorm clouds spreading across LA caused me to have an “oh my God!” moment as I was driving home on Topanga Canyon Blvd. I stopped at home, grabbed some gear, and continued ten minutes up the canyon to the Tuna Canyon trailhead to get a better view. The trail splits and if you go to the left you will come to a dead end and an amazing labyrinth walk, maintained primarily by my friend Jude who leads full moon hikes just about every month. Tomorrow is her last full moon hike before leaving on walkabout in Australia, so if you’d like to attend, please email her at the address below for more information and to make a reservation. We’ll miss you, Jude!

I had some real fun with long exposures and light painting, but my favorite is the last pano image, Santa Monica Bay Fog. I’m still trying to figure out what the light source is for the white lights in the middle of the bay. This natural multilayered light configuration only lasted about 30 minutes and then it was gone. I guess it pays to hike fast! 😉
